The Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics have two games in the books already… I caught the last inning of today’s 4-1 Oakland win while eating breakfast this morning, and I watched the whole* rebroadcast of yesterday’s season opener on MLB Network last night.
Ichiro Suzuki‘s reception reminded me of the way fans reacted to Cal Ripken Jr. in his final games at the end of the 2001 season. It must have been a great feeling for him to put together a four-hit game in front of the cheering crowd.
Felix Hernandez was very good – it’s a shame he wasn’t able to earn a victory. Brandon McCarthy surprised me; I’d never really taken notice of him before.
*Any errors in my scorecard are due to the fact that I was starting to doze off a few times while watching the rebroadcast, which began shortly after 10 p.m. EDT and finished shortly before 1:30 a.m. EDT.

The A’s probably saw more people in the seats in Japan then they will in Oakland Coliseum all year- except when the Yankees are in town.
I’ve been to that ballpark for both baseball and football. It feels like your miles away from the field. If you’re sitting in those “center field” seats for football you’re closer to the planes going to Oakland airport.
They need to go to San Jose- or else there’s a great chance a charter member of the AL could be contracted.
On a more positive note glad to see the season has started.
Yeah, it was nice to see baseball that counts… even if it was played at weird times.
