Maybe next year, they should focus on getting better players

Remember all the fuss last winter about changing Citi Field’s dimensions to make it more home run friendly?

It worked – sort of.

AP Sports writer Ronald Blum reports the changes benefited Mets’ opponents more than the home team this year.

Of the 46 home runs this year that would not have cleared the old wall, 21 were hit by New York, according to figures compiled by the team.

Oops.

Maybe this winter, GM Sandy Alderson should focus on adding some power hitters if he wants the Mets to hit more home runs.

  1. Eh, five home runs isn’t that big a deal. If the Mets were a better team, the numbers would’ve been reversed, or better. The point was to make it a more fair home-run park, and I think they did that.

    1. Maybe, but many were buying into the notion that the new dimensions would turn these Mets into better power hitters. It’s time for ownership & the front office to stop selling smoke & mirrors and improve the team.

      1. I guess so, but it surprised me that so many people thought it would benefit the Mets and not the visitors. It was pretty obvious to me, and I didn’t see it as smoke and mirrors. I mean, I would’t expect the Mets to point out that it would help the visitors too. That’s the media’s job, not the team’s.
