There are two significant sports autograph shows coming up later this month.
JP’s Sports and Rock Solid Promotions will be holding its “Winter Extravaganza” at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, N.Y. from January 18th-20th. While no current or former Mets players are currently included in the autograph guest lineup, you will have a chance to see baseball Hall of Famers Steve Carlton, Luis Aparicio, Cal Ripken Jr. and Jim Palmer, as well as Atlanta Braves star John Smoltz. Jim Lonborg and Fritz Peterson will sign one free autograph with paid admission on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Oddly enough, MAB Celebrity Services’ “Pinstripe Glory Days” show will be of more interest to Mets fans. Held on January 26th & 27th at La Quinta Inn & Suites in Secaucus, the show includes a number of former Mets who also played for the Yankees. David Cone highlights a Saturday lineup that also includes Darryl Strawberry, Mike Stanton, Jose Cardenal, and former Mets broadcaster Tim McCarver. (Newark Bears fans may also want to take advantage of the opportunity to see Tim Raines and Willie Banks.) Willie Randolph, Shane Spencer and Orlando “El Duque” Hernandez will be there on Sunday.
Steiner Sports is having public signings with Hall of Famer Rollie Fingers (January 21st) and Boston Red Sox bane Bucky Dent (January 29th) at its Roosevelt Field Mall store in Garden City, N.Y. this month.
Chris Potter Sports has private signings scheduled with over 70 former baseball players, including former New York Mets Dr. Mike Marshall, Craig Anderson, Gordie Richardson, J.C. Martin, Jose Cardenal, Frank Lary, Ed Bauta, Derek Bell, and Tom Reynolds. The deadline to send in items in January 25th.
Will you be going to any of these autograph shows? Which guest(s) are you looking forward to seeing?

$129 for Scott Broscius????? They can keep it.
$59 for McCarver???? Get lost.
I almost want to go just to see how many people will fork over $129 for Scott Brosius. I think I’ll be passing on all of the January shows/signings since the few people I really could use for my collection all cost way too much money.
I remember back in 1986 that I thought $30 for Nolan Ryan was too much. Scott Brosius? $129? He had some great moments in the postseason and rings to show for it, but someone clearly is trying to take advantage of Yankee fans here (someone hand me a tissue….*sniff*)
$30 probably was too much for Nolan Ryan in 1986… using the government’s inflation calculator, $30 in 1986 translates to $63 in 2012. He doesn’t charge that much to sign items mailed to his foundation & I think that’s around his show fee now, even though he’s a Hall of Famer.
MAB just added Johnny Damon to that show, but his autograph price is still TBA. I’m very curious where it will slot in with Mr. Brosius and the actual Hall of Famers who will be attending.
No mention of the Aaron Laffey, Omar Quintanilla and Andrew Brown signings? I thought Laffey was a nice cheap pick-up. He’s a lefty and only 27. Mind you, I wouldn’t want him in my rotation, but he’d be a respectable mid-inning reliever. They say Brown could compete for an outfield spot, but I’m not seeing it. So far, he’s looked like a Quad-A talent.
I figure MetsBlog should have that stuff covered. I’m not excited about guys who should spend the summer in Las Vegas, but given the state of the Mets organization I’m sure they’ll all get to play in New York this year.
Considering there’s talk of Justin Turner getting playing time in the outfield, I assume that Brown really does have a chance of winning a major league spot.
