For those wondering about where former Newark Bear Paddy Matera would be playing in 2012, it’s time to start following the Camden Riversharks.

Jose writes:

I just saw Paddy Matera playing today [Saturday] with the Camden Riversharks against the Lancaster Barnstormers. He started at short, and think he went 2 for 3 today.

Matera joins former Bears coach Ron Karkovice and recent Bears players Mikey Mehlich, Chris Rollins and Matt Smith with Camden.

The Riversharks begin the 2012 season on Thursday, April 26th with a 7:05 p.m. game in Bridgeport. Their home schedule starts on Wednesday, May 9th with a 7:05 p.m. game vs. the Lancaster Barnstormers, and their first trip to Bridgewater to play the Somerset Patriots begins on Thursday, May 24th with an 11:05 a.m. day game.

  1. Have you seen Paddy Matera, he’s playing for Camden Riversharks, I think he’s only played in around 8 games, but he’s hitting 471, he has 8 hits in 17 at bats….. He’s doing reallly well

    • No, I haven’t made it to any Riversharks games. I see they did finally give him back-to-back starts the last two days. Just looking at their stats, I’d give Matera a chance to play every day at third base and bench Eduardo Perez.

  2. Yo guys that kid Paddy Matera is doing quite well since he has been playing. He’s batting over 400 and his on base percentage is over 500. I hope he gets a chance to play everyday. I really liked him when he was at Newark. He was a real friendly kid and was real nice to the fans. You got to love a kid like that.

  3. Hey Paul, How have you been? Quick Question why is Jeff Scott not playing Paddy Matera tonight? the kid has been on a roll and he benches him and plays Perez at 3rd base who is batting 198. Paddy is batting 444 what makes a manager do something so stupid? Also what do you think of Lloyd Turner who is batting over 300 and playing a nice second base for the riversharks? He made it as far as triple a. Would any Major league team give him a shot?

    • Lloyd Turner is 32 now, so it will be tough for him to get another look from affiliated baseball. Never say never, but they’d probably give a younger guy a chance first.

I don’t know Jeff Scott’s thought process, but maybe he was hoping to get Eduardo Perez’s bat going. It’s nearly impossible to work out of a slump from the bench.

  4. Paul I can understand giving guys at bats when there slumping but do you sit a guy batting 433??? Jeff Scott has to be the biggest horses butt out there. You have a kid like Paddy Matera batting over 400 and he sits the past 3 out of 4 games. I know I’m a Paddy Matera fan because he was on Newark last year, but this is still baseball and the Riversharks manager makes no sense. It’s great to see the Bears off to a great start. 5-2. I hope they have a great year.

  5. Is it management that the Bears can’t field a competitive team?

    • If you look back the Bears were tied for first once upon a time in May and the beginning of June. The team hit the media hard this offseason about the use of home grown Talent and seem to have thrown that idea in the garbage. I head Buddy Caruso is running the show and just released all his local stars like Rob Swift, Damian Sequen, AJ Casario, and Rick Stronski.
This team went into the gutter firstly when the started 2 lefty pitchers that had no business either starting or in pro ball. Now the rotation is full of Relievers, and the bullpen full of what they call “experienced guys”. But Some seem as if they have never played. LYONS just threw another game that he managed to no get one out giving up 4 runs and walking 3. GARCIA went two string innings only giving up single digit runs this time.( a big improvement) The last rookie they have is Cuevas, who is another one giving up double digit runs every outing. The Bears looked strong at one point and that Front office ruined any chance of a title.

I just wish my bookie took bets for Indy teams I’d be rich betting against the bears.

  6. What do think Tony???? The mangement at Newark Bears Stadium is awful. They get rid of decent players to bring in garbage. They will finish in last place again this year because of there ownership

  7. Well congrats to Paddy Matera who just had a beautiful baby girl. Her name is Sierra Leigh Matera.
All the best to you and your family.

  8. Heopfully Paddy can come back and light it up. The Riversharks can really use his offense they haven’t scored over 5 runs since he went out on maternity

  9. Hey Paul, How are you doing? Went on vacation and came back to see that the Bears are as aweful as they were before I went away for two weeks. Is there any hope for this team this year?

    • The Bears start the day with a 16-34 record in last place, 18 games behind Quebec and 12 games behind the Jackals. The way the playoffs work this year, the two teams with the best overall records face each other – there are no first half & second half titles.

Rockland has a chance to catch New Jersey for the second playoff spot, but the Bears and Tornadoes are just playing for pride at this point.

  10. The Bears are just pitiful. There’s nothing else to say. I took my son to 1 game this year and it was like watching Little Leauge. It’s a shame because we usually go to about 12 game a year for the past 6 years. This year I’m one and done
