2013 Mets baseball cards: Johan Santana & Dillon Gee

Here are a couple more 2013 Mets baseball cards:

I admit I’m a little confused about Johan Santana‘s appearance on this checklist card in the first series of this year’s Topps set.

The front of the card mentions “Record Chase: 2,000 Strikeouts” but doesn’t note how far Santana is from the minor milestone or if he’s already reached it. A review of Baseball-Reference.com tells me that Santana currently has 1,988 strikeouts, so he could reach the mark sometime in April if he’s healthy.

It will probably get a mention in the beat writers’ notes columns and a round of polite applause if the scoreboard operator calls attention to it at Citi Field.

Really, Topps… who’s writing the backs of these baseball cards?

And for the fans of the 1972 Topps baseball card design, here are a few more minis:

Thanks to Ritchie and William for the new additions to my baseball card collection.

  1. I wonder how you apply for the job of doing the write-ups on the backs of Topps baseball cards? I might just have to apply.
