David Wright’s 2013 Topps Heritage baseball card

Congratulations to David Wright, the fourth team captain in Mets history and one of the best players to wear the blue and orange uniform in my lifetime.

I might quibble at the timing of the announcement (a poorly organized post-game press conference after a weekday afternoon spring training loss while Wright is currently out of action with a rib cage injury), but the honor is well-deserved.

  1. Nothing like being captain of the Titanic.

In all fairness, Wright’s a great guy, excellent player and great teammate and team player. It’s a shame he’s on a team heading nowhere. But I admire him for sticking with and by the Mets even when the Mets ownership has trouble doing that.
