On Tuesday, the Omaha Storm Chasers defeated the Durham Bulls, 2-1, to win the Triple-A Championship in a game played at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Pa. (box)

Omaha pitcher Chris Dwyer took a perfect game into the seventh inning, when it was broken up by Tim Beckham‘s single. (Dwyer earned the game’s MVP award and a call-up to Kansas City.)

Some interesting names from the past in the box score:

  • Former Washington Nationals catcher (and one-time Mets farmhand) Jesus Flores was playing for Durham, as was former Yankee Shelley Duncan.
  • Ben Broussard, who started the year with the Long Island Ducks, played for Omaha.

I was at work and couldn’t make it to the game, but a couple of my friends went and Vinny Haynes (@buhudabear) said I could share some of his photos with you.

  1. Will in Central NJ

Interesting! I was unaware that what used to be called the “Little World Series” is now played at a neutral site. Since when did this begin to happen? Also, how was attendance in Allentown for teams from the deep south and lower midwest?

  2. I was at the game there was 9500 people there from what I read. My son threw one of the first pitches but sadly my camera man(my husband) didn’t work the camera properly. I have still shots but was wondering if you might know if there’s video anywhere of the opening festivities? Fun game and we even caught a foul ball off of Shelly Duncan!
