Congratulations to Daniel Murphy, who will represent the New York Mets at the 2014 All-Star Game.

A first-time All-Star, Murphy is tied for second in the National League with 106 hits, two behind league leader Casey McGehee of the Miami Marlins. He is hitting .294 with seven home runs, 35 RBI and 11 stolen bases.

Murphy is one of three second basemen on the National League roster, joining starter Chase Utley of the Philadelphia Phillies and fellow reserve Dee Gordon of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

  1. Good for him. It’s easy to root for him. He plays hard, and thanks all you can ask.

    • I really am happy for Daniel Murphy, but this is probably how fans felt when Lee Mazzilli or John Stearns got to represent the Mets at the All-Star Game.

      • Exactly. Also, now that his value is at its highest, it might be time to consider trading him, or packaging him in a bigger deal. Clearly, the Mets have lots of holes to fill.

        • I agree – I hope Sandy Alderson is working the phones, whether it’s to add players that can help at the major league level now or at some point in the near future.
