Updating my Mets autograph collection project

IMG

Monday’s mail brought an envelope with eight cool Mets* baseball cards courtesy of my friend Greg. Well, seven Mets and one Minnesota Twin. But that’s ok… the Twins player was left-handed pitcher Sean Gilmartin, currently a member of the Mets’ bullpen. And I needed his autograph for my All-Time Mets autograph collection.

The All-Star Break seemed like a good time to update my progress. According to the wonderful Ultimate Mets Database, 15 players have made their Mets debut in 2015:

  • Michael Cuddyer (April 6)
  • John Mayberry Jr. (April 6)
  • Jerry Blevins (April 6)
  • Alex Torres (April 9)
  • Sean Gilmartin (April 10)
  • Danny Muno (April 17)
  • Kevin Plawecki (April 21)
  • Hansel Robles (April 24)
  • Jack Leathersich (April 29)
  • Johnny Monell (May 9)
  • Noah Syndergaard (May 12)
  • Darrell Ceciliani (May 19)
  • Akeel Morris (June 17)
  • Logan Verrett (June 18)
  • Steven Matz (June 28)

(Interesting bit of trivia: the next player to make his Mets’ debut will be the 1000th to appear in a game for the franchise.)

In addition to the Gilmartin card I got Monday, I’ve recently acquired a signed Steven Matz baseball card and a number of Noah Syndergaard ones. I already had signed baseball cards for Michael Cuddyer and Jack Leathersich, and I believe I’ve gotten Danny Muno, Kevin Plawecki, Hansel Robles and Darrell Ceciliani to sign cards for me while they were playing in the minor leagues.

At worst, I am 91 signed baseball cards away from completing my project. It’s likely an unobtainable goal, but then again, I never thought I’d get this far when I started.
